12:00am Local artista and photographers have works on display at City Hall.
The City Hall at 5th Street and
Rood Avenue hosts a new exhibit of art by Grand Junction artists which
will go on display January 6. The Commission on Arts and Culture will
host an opening reception for the exhibit on Friday evening, January 8
from 5:30 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. in conjunction with January’s First Friday
celebration (being done on the second Friday). The public is invited to
attend.
Local photographer Dr. Scott Lybrook, painter Janet Mayerik, and
sculptor Thad Tuin will be showing their excellent artwork in the main
lobby and first floor hallways. Near the auditorium and on the second
floor Community Art Wall, Rod A. Martinez, Beverly Kingsley and Jack
Kingsley, all members of the Southwest Photographic Arts Association,
will display photographs.
Artful landscapes of regional scenery and topography are the subject of
Lybrook’s photographs and Mayerik’s oil paintings. Tuin’s
sculpture ranges from large free-standing pieces to smaller work and is
created out of wood, stone, and steel. The unique photographs of
long-time photography instructor Rod Martinez and the Kingsleys range
from scenery to wildlife to people from many different perspectives.
The new artwork will be on display through the end of the March, and
many of the pieces are for sale by contacting the individual artists.
The Commission organizes the quarterly rotating exhibits of original
work by local artists to showcase the interesting and exceptional
artwork being created by Grand Valley residents. The City Hall is open
weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. For more information contact the Arts
Commission at 254-3865 or allisons@gjcity.org.
The Commission is an eleven member board appointed by the City
Council. Current board members include: Chair Kat Rhein, Melonie
Buchanan, Gisela Flanigan, Jeanine Howe, Jeanne Killgore, Lancer
Livermont, Pam McLaughlin, Don Meyers, Vera Mulder, Lora Quesenberry,
and Tanya Smith.
